Boeing and Airbus Face Delays in New Freighter Deliveries

U.S. manufacturer Boeing and European rival Airbus are experiencing delays in the delivery of next-generation freighter aircraft, forcing cargo airlines to continue operating aging fleets. The report was published by Financial Times and cited by TASS.

Atlas Air CEO Michael Steen noted, “The imbalance between supply and demand in the widebody freighter market will worsen in the coming years.”

Highlighting the impact of aging fleets, Steen added, “The current limited deliveries, combined with the upcoming wave of fleet retirements, will create significant challenges for the industry.”

Globally, of around 630 widebody freighters in operation, about 150 have already reached the end of their 25-year economic life. While this underscores the urgent need for fleet renewal, delivery delays from manufacturers are making the process even more difficult.
